The Changing Nature of Work and Lifelong Learning

The Changing Nature of Work and Lifelong Learning in the New Economy: National and Case Study Perspectives, the WALL research network conducted a large-scale national survey and 12 closely-related case studies in Canada to generate documentation on the relationship between lifelong learning and work. An empirical approach was applied to recognize learning that occurs within work environments (both paid and unpaid) that goes beyond any formal schooling processes or commonly recognized contexts (i.e. the home, community organizations) and involves such processes as self-directed learning and informal training.

This collaborative research initiative was funded by the SSHRC Initiative on the New Economy (INE) for the 2003-2007 period and D.W. Livingstone was principal investigator.
