CSEW Working Groups
Steering Committee:
Chaired by D. W. Livingstone,
guides all CSEW activities and has been
especially instrumental in the development of our research agenda, including
major proposals to the SSHRC.
Education and Curriculum Working
Group: Chaired by Peter Sawchuk, this group includes staff from the
Toronto and District School Board (TDSB), the Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL)
and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF). It coordinates an
extensive and sustainable pre-service teacher education program in education and
work issues, building on prior business and technological studies offerings, and
addresses challenges of coordination among graduate studies offerings in the
inter-departmental focus on Learning and Work.
Innovative Practices in Labour Education Working Group:
Chaired by CSEW coordinator D’Arcy Martin, this group includes
union-based and community-based adult educators, has established links in
Québec, Saskatchewan, Illinois and California, and initiated a continent-wide
series of labour educator exchanges.
Democratizing
Workplace Learning Working Group (DWL): Chaired by Kiran Mirchandani, this group
includes several graduate students and union representatives, and coordinates
three research projects around race-based barriers to technology access and
related learning among contingent workers.
Research Working
Group: Chaired by D.W. Livingstone, this group
coordinated the development and completion of the Work and Lifelong Learning
(WALL) research network project, which conducted annual conferences, conducted
large-scale national surveys and completed twelve qualitative case studies.
Among the project outputs is a web site (www.wallnetwork.ca),
many articles and at least eight books. This group continues to nurture and
assist new project initiatives by newer interested faculty.
